Delta One on a Domestic A350 Flight? My LAX–Atlanta Experience: A Business Class Experience on a Domestic Route
I recently had the opportunity to fly Delta from Los Angeles to Atlanta on a refurbished A350-900, which was branded as Delta One, offering amenities typically found on long-haul business class flights.
My Return to Delta One on the A350
I was initially planning to fly from Los Angeles to Chicago with a connection in Minneapolis. However, I made a last-minute change to fly directly from Los Angeles to Atlanta, not knowing that Delta was branding its widebody flights between these two cities as Delta One, similar to American Airlines' Flagship service.
Upon checking in, I was thrilled to receive a Delta One purple boarding pass, granting me access to the Delta One Lounge at LAX before departure. This was a significant improvement over my usual tight schedule, allowing me to relax and enjoy a delicious breakfast, great coffee, and a massage chair, which made the wait much more enjoyable.
The lounge, located in Terminal 3, has aged well, providing a luxurious pre-flight experience. The walk to the Tom Bradley International Terminal, where the flight departs, was a pleasant 10-minute stroll.
Onboard the A350, the cabin reflected Delta's latest color palette, with refined and comfortable seats featuring wireless charging ports. However, I encountered a common issue with charging my device, which is a minor inconvenience.
The flight attendants offered a printed menu, Missoni-branded amenity kits, and slippers, creating an international-style experience. Breakfast was served on a single tray with a yogurt appetizer, salmon side dish, main course (I opted for eggs with sausage), and a mini-scone. The breakfast was a delightful start to the flight, with mixed nuts as an appetizer, a unique but enjoyable choice.
A snack basket was offered later, followed by warm chocolate chip cookies and a piece of chocolate before landing. The in-flight Wi-Fi worked well and was free for SkyMiles members, allowing me to complete my work efficiently.
I thoroughly enjoyed a sci-fi movie about the interaction between AI and the entity called Mercy. However, the late arrival of the connecting flight in Atlanta caused a delay, which was a minor setback.
In conclusion, my experience on the Delta One A350 flight between Los Angeles and Atlanta was exceptional, offering a business class-like experience on a domestic route. The refurbished A350, Delta One Lounge, and high-quality in-flight services made it a memorable journey. While the late arrival in Atlanta was an inconvenience, it's a small price to pay for such a pleasant flight.
