The Women and Babies Hospital in Murdoch is set to undergo a transformative expansion, with a groundbreaking $1.8 billion project poised to redefine healthcare in Western Australia. This ambitious endeavor, spanning four years, will result in a 12-story hospital within the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct, significantly enhancing services for women and their infants.
The hospital's design includes state-of-the-art facilities, such as advanced inpatient care for gynaecology and maternity patients, a specialized neonatology unit for newborns, operating theatres, a family birth center, and outpatient clinics. These additions will not only improve patient care but also address the growing demand for healthcare services in the region.
A critical aspect of this project is the construction of two multi-deck carparks, ensuring ample parking for the increased patient capacity. The initial phase of construction, marked by the first major concrete pour, signifies a substantial step forward in the project's timeline. Over 12 hours, approximately 2200 cubic meters of concrete was poured to create the hospital's foundation, setting the stage for the subsequent construction phases.
As the project progresses, further concrete pours will shape a 10,000 square meter ground slab, a scale comparable to Optus Stadium. The arrival of the first tower crane, standing at 35 meters tall and capable of lifting 13-ton objects, signals the commencement of vertical construction.
Seven additional fully electric tower cranes will be deployed to assist in the hospital's construction, contributing to the project's commitment to sustainability.
